Events & Activities

Festival of Languages, 12 November 2007

Venue : St. Aidan’s Catholic School and Language College, Willow Bank Road, Sunderland, SR2 7HJ

Time : 1.45 – 3.30 pm

Objectives :

  • to celebrate language learning and the international dimension in Sunderland LA schools
  • to offer a showcase for groups of students to demonstrate their skills and the outcomes of their work to an appreciative audience and experience success
  • to motivate young people to enjoy and value language learning and learning about other cultures

Activities : Performances by participants in school hall; language taster sessions, ICT based activities on language learning, quizzes. As soon as we know how many schools wish to attend, we will ask you to select two activities for your group.

Who is it for? Staff and students of all ages; performances will be divided into two sessions for younger and older pupils, with time for each age group to try other activities as well.

How many students can attend? We will do our best to accommodate everyone who wants to perform. If you wish to bring students who are not involved in a performance, please indicate this on the form and we will let you know whether numbers allow us to accommodate them.

Cost : There is no charge for this event but schools must organise their own transport and cover arrangements.

Parking : Parking is available on main school yard after 1.35pm

Access : We regret that the main entrance to the school hall is not wheelchair accessible (four steps); it is possible to enter the fire exit (one small step) from the rear of the building. Please let us know if you have access requirements and we will do our best to ensure that they are met.

Risk assessment : We will provide a risk assessment for this event, which can be emailed to you so that you just have to add your own transport arrangements to it. All events are hall/classroom based and all staff are employed in Sunderland schools.

Photos : Participating schools will receive a permission pro-forma to allow us to take photos. These may be used in displays and school publications, and we will also send press releases to the local press who may attend; no pupil names or personal details will be used with photos, we will just identify their schools.
