Work
Experience Programme Year 10 2008-09
General Information
Dates of the Work Experience
ALL pupils participate in 2 weeks
Work Experience in Year 10. The dates of the Work Experience Programme
this year are: - Monday 29th June – Friday
10th July 2009.
Opportunity
Although Work Experience is unpaid, it is a great
opportunity to find out what it is like to be part of a working
environment.
Working Hours
The hours of your Work Experience may vary, depending
on the workplace. However, you are expected to work no longer than
usual office hours.
Parental Consent
For insurance purposes, no pupil can be considered
for Work Experience unless a Parental Consent Form has been returned
to school.
Meal Arrangements
During the Work Experience you may be given
the choice of using the company’s canteen, taking a packed
lunch or making your own arrangement.
Travel Arrangements
Pupils must make their own arrangements regarding
travel to and from the place of work. Help may be given with the
cost in cases if hardship, and where pupils may have to travel
out of the area through no fault of their own. Any pupil, who is
unsure as to the location of the placement, should see Mr. Weston.
Own Arrangement
Most pupils make their own arrangement to go to
a particular place of work. If the workplace has agreed that you
can go there, then you must complete a personal placement form.
You will not be allowed to attend the placement unless this form
is completed and handed in to Mr. Weston.
Personal Placement Forms are available from Mr. Weston in Room 26, or from the
drop list at the top.
How to Make Your Own Arrangement
Think carefully about the type
of work that you would be interested in doing.
Finding a Placement
You can:
- Phone
- Go in person
- Write a letter of request
You are advised to contact employers before February half-term
2009.
Please note:
If you are interested in working with computers – you
are more likely to work in clerical (office work) placement.
Do not be too disappointed with rejection; some companies and
organisations do not accept Work Experience pupils.
Connexions Tyne and Wear
There are a limited number of Connexions
Service placements for those pupils who may have had difficulties
in organising their own placement, however some of these placements
involve travelling to outlying areas such as Washington and Newcastle. General Categories of Work
