Facilities
We have two fully equipped areas designed to teach food technology.
We have two specialist textile workshops. There are also another
four multimedia workshops, which include a range of machines
and hand tools. We also have access to a computer-aided design
and manufacture. These machines comply with the governments
plan to ensure all pupils have some training with using ICT
for design and manufacture. With this in mind we also have
an ICT suite equipped with 24 computers to teach CAD/CAM. The
software available is 2D design and prodesk top.
Key Stage 3 Curriculum
All pupils are taught design technology in mixed ability groups
two hours per week in KS3. The lessons follow the National
Curriculum and the year is split into modules in Years 7 and
8. Each module is formatively assessed with an end module level
and pupil targets set for the following module. The modules
covered in Year 7 and 8 are: safety and design, metal/wood
work, computer aided design, food, systems and control, structures,
graphic techniques and textiles.
In Year 9, to help the pupils chose a GCSE option; the modules
are extended and cover food, textiles, metal/jewellery and graphics.
Within technology we teach a range of skills from working with
tools and materials. We develop social skills, confidence and
ambition. We teach how to investigate, analyse and evaluate.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum
Pupils start developing a range of skills to enable them to follow
the GCSE
specification. The course requires the pupils to complete
a design portfolio worth 20%, a practice piece of work worth
40% and a written exam worth 40%. The courses are very popular
with pupils and this is shown within the exam results.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Workshops are used over the lunch period and evening to help
those pupils develop GCSE coursework.
Pupils are encouraged to display their talents ate every opportunity;
