Día de San Valentín En este día la gente tiene que trabajar, pero están felices porque es el día de los amantes. Compran regalos para sus novias y novios. Normalmente compran chocolates y corazones pintados y se los dan a la gente que aman. Otras personas escriben cartas y ponen “Te quiero”. Pero hay mucha gente que no tiene novios y en este día visitan a las personas que aman para preguntarles si quieren salir con ellos. Valentine’s Day On this day people have to go to work, but they are happy because this is the day for lovers. They buy presents for their girlfriends and boyfriends. They usually buy chocolates and painted hearts and give them to the people they love. Other people write letters and put “I love you”. But there are many people who don’t have boyfriends or girlfriends, and on this day they go to the people they love to ask if they want to go out with them. Jueves Lardero Jueves Lardero cae siempre en el último jueves de febrero, y es el comienzo de los Carnavales. En este día los estudiantes no van al colegio y van de merienda. Hace algún tiempo, la tradición era comer pan, un huevo y un trozo de chorizo, pero hoy sólo los viejos lo hacen. Jueves Lardero always falls on the last Thursday of February, and is the beginning of the Carnivals. On this day students don’t go to school and they go for a picnic instead. Some time ago the tradition was to eat bread, a boiled egg and a piece of chorizo, but nowadays only old people do that. Viernes de Carnaval En los Carnavales, la gente se viste con disfraces que ellos mismos hacen o compran. Pasan mucho tiempo haciéndolos. Van a discos, cantan y bailan todo el día y toda la noche. Hacen chistes a la gente que conoce porque no los reconocen. El último día es el Entierro de la Sardina. Las personas hacen un pescado de papel y lo llevan en procesión. La gente lleva ropa negra y simulan estar llorando. Eso significa que los carnavales han terminado. Carnival Friday During the Carnivals, people wear fancy-dress costumes that they buy or make themselves. They spend a lot of time making them. They go to discos, and sing and dance all day and all night. They play practical jokes on people they know because they don’t recognise them. The last day is the Funeral of the Sardine. People make a fish out of paper and carry it in a procession. They wear black clothes and pretend to cry. That means that the carnivals are over.
