| How to get to Sunderland: The best way to get to the City of Sunderland is to fly to Newcastle International Airport, which is about 45 minutes from Sunderland by car and is linked to Sunderland via the Tyne and Wear Metro system. The airport has frequent daily connections with London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, and several of the budget airlines operate direct flights from there. There is a second airport in the north-east of England called Durham Tees Valley. This airport is about 1½ hours from Sunderland by car, and it is not easy to get to using public transport. Sunderland has a good network of public transport, including buses, trains and the Tyne and Wear Metro. | |||||||
