About us

We are 50!

As you may be aware from a recent article in the Sunderland Echo we will be celebrating our 50 th Anniversary this year. Although the school actually opened its doors to its first set of pupils in April 1959, the foundation stone was laid on 3 rd July 1958.

On Tuesday 1 st July we will be holding tours of the school; these are intended for parents, grandparents, past pupils or anyone connected to the school who would like to come in and have a look around, perhaps to indulge in a few memories and to look at how the school has changed. The tours will be led by our student council and staff. Tours will last approximately half and hour; there will be a chance to look at displays of many photographs and items from the school archives and buy commemorative merchandise.

On Thursday 3 rd of July for our current students we will celebrate by holding a 50’s style theme day – non-uniform. Many of the lessons will be 1950’s ‘style’ and we will be releasing 50 balloons to mark the occasion. Throughout the week we will also have 1950’s themes assemblies. Our final day of term before the summer, Friday the 18 th July will also be 50’s themed.

One final event will be held on Wednesday 9 th July – this is an old school reunion gathering. If you were a pupil in the early years of the school or a governor or perhaps even an ex-member of staff this event is aimed at you. For further details please contact the school.

Letters will be sent home with students soon giving further details of how to buy merchandise and get involved in the tours.
