What is the award in dance leadership?
- The Award in dance leadership provides the idea starting point for people who want to develop their leadership skills, teaching and engaging others in an enjoyable dance experience.
- The Award in Dance Leadership is a recognised accreditation and can be added to your record of achievement and helps to complement many other courses such as GCSE Dance, PE, Performing Arts, existing dance qualifications.
What does it involve?
- You will complete 7 units of work, each preparing you in the various skills you will need to be able to lead a dance workshop yourself, confidently, safely and enjoyably.
- There is no exam, the assessment is completed through observation of your performance leading peers and other groups such as KS3 dance clubs and/or primary classes.
What will I have to do?
- You will complete many group activities, learning how to put together, plan and implement a successful dance workshop.
- You will complete simple worksheets and keep a regular log of any leadership experience you gain.
- As a Dance Leader you will be expected to attend some extra curricular clubs to lead activities, this may be in school or in the community.
- You will learn how to communicate with a class, how to successfully warm them up, teach movement, whilst increasing your own dance knowledge, vocabulary and understanding
How long will it take?
- To gain the award you must demonstrate that you have led a minimum of one hour dance activity, being the sole planner and organiser. This can be spread over a period of time, i.e. 4x15mins sessions, 2x30mins sessions.
- Approx 30 hours is needed to cover Units 1-6 with additional time for unit 7. This will vary depending on the groups experience
