BTEC Dance
The BTEC first certificate in Performing Arts: Dance consists of a core unit plus two 2 other specialist units. These must be completed to gain the qualification which is equal to two GCSE’s.
The certificate is awarded in the following way:
- Pass = CC
- Merit = BB
- Distinction = AA
Pass, Merit & Distinction
- In order to achieve a Pass you must complete all sections i.e. P1-P6.
- In order to achieve a Merit you must complete all Pass sections P1-6 and all Merit sections M1-6.
- In order to achieve a Distinction you must complete all Pass section, Merit sections and all Distinction sections D1-6.
Assesment
- The course is entirely practical supported by written evidence.
- Assessment occurs in the following ways: Formal Assessment, Witness Statements, Video Evidence and Observations Records.
- You will complete 3 units: Performing Dance, Understanding Dance & Contemporary Dance.
Tasks
- Each unit is broken down into tasks, these tasks are broken down further into points detailing exactly what you need to do to achieve a Pass, Merit and Distinction.
- Each task is practically based however you will complete written work to support your understanding including a weekly Dance diary, worksheets, posters, presentations etc.
Unit B4: Performing Dance
- In this unit you will learn, rehearse and perform dances from different styles.
- You will study Street Dance, Jazz Dance and Contemporary Dance.
- You will begin by learning Street dance technique then learn a dance in this style. This dance will be assessed twice, once to allow you to study your own performance and set target for improvement with the help of the teacher. The second is the final assessment which goes towards the completion of the unit.
- The process will be repeated three times in the different dance styles.
- Dances will be performed at the annual Dance Festival, Assemblies and in the Dance Evening.
