Tyne and Wear Rugby League Tournament winners 2006

Farringdon Year 8 Rugby League North East Final 18 th Feb Monkton Stadium Jarrow

Background to the Team

In Year 7, June 2006 the team represented Sunderland in the Tyne and Wear Youth Games. The boys won the competition beating representative teams from North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Gateshead.

This year the team beat Longbenton in the Quarter Finals and got a bye in the semi-finals. The boys have a great attitude towards training and are always willing to learn and improve their skills.

A special thanks to Mr Lewis and Mr Robinson who give up their time in order to train and organise the team. Also a special mention to Mr Roberts who is taking the team on Finals day.

Player Profile

Tom Willis – The Captain of the team who leads by example. He is a player who is very hard to stop when at full speed.

Sean Robinson – A very quick and agile player who has great potential in this sport.

Michael Chorley – One of the Props in the team who shows great controlled aggression when playing Rugby. Never forgets his shinpads

Carl Tully – The winger of the team who always gives the team a different option.

James Carroll – Has the ability to beat 5 or 6 players through strength and speed, a player to watch.

Domonic Blyth – A player always willing to learn and work at his game. Someone who always puts the team first.

Harry Coles – In his first year of playing Rugby, Harry has developed in leaps and bounds as he develops his skills.

Chris Williams – Another player who is a great tackler and is improving with every game. Another player who is able to gain territory with his ability to run forward with pace and strength.

Daniel Galley – The scrum half and kicker of the team. He is vital to the team as he has a good understanding of the game and a good all round ability.

Scott Hutchison – Again another player who has only started playing this year. Has the ability to beat players and off-load in attacking situations. Scott gets better every time he plays.

Michael Hacket – The Hooker of the team. Has great passing skills and the ability to break through defensive lines.

Chris Barton – A player who is adapting to league and has a very good understanding of the game. Is able to gain territory in order to push the team forward, also a great tackler.

Josh Horton - Is unable to attend the final but is a key member of the squad who always gives 100 % effort.

North East U13’s Rugby League Final
Monkton Stadium Sat 17 th Feb
Farringdon 15 - 27 Seaton Burn

The Farringdon Boys were 27 to nill down at the break due mainly to handling errors. They then showed great character and determination to score three tries. Reports were that if they had another ten minutes they could have pulled the score back. This is a learning curve for the lads and hopefully next year they can go one step further. Michael Hacket was Man of the Match.

The following boys have been selected to represent Wearside v Tynseide on Sat 3 rd of March at Longbenton school in Newcastle;

James Carroll, Tom Willis, Scott Hutchison, Daniel Galley, Chris Williams, Connor Johnston,
Sean Robinson, Carl Tully, Michael Hacket, Michael Chorley, Chris Barton

Wearside ran out comfortable winners, the following pupils from that game have been asked to represent Tyne and Wear v Durham on March 24 th and March 31 st.

Tom Willis, James Carroll, Sean Robinson, Connor Johnston, Carl Tully, Daniel Galley,
Michael Chorley

A great achievement for one school team and good luck.

Year 8 Rugby Union

Wednesday 14th March
Castle View 0 - 40 Farringdon

The boys adapted very well to transfer the skills they have learned in league to Union. Due to success in Training and their league games, word has spread and 25 pupils now turn up to training on a Tuesday Lunch Time. New players to the team were James Pallas and Luke Jenkins who added to the team, well done.

Monday 19 th March
Thornhill 17 - 20 Farringdon

It was a very battling performance in cold conditions on a very small pitch. The boys were playing 7 or 8 phase Rugby which was very exciting to see as they kept possession very well. Again well done to the squad.
