History at Farringdon is devised to be both an engaging and rewarding experience for all of our students both at Key Stage 3 and 4. As historians we want the students to understand the past and the relevance that it has to everyday life. We use a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies which the students respond to in a positive way.
Year 7 – What is History, Life in Medieval England, The role of the Monarch, European Medieval history, The Romans.
Year 8 – Historical Skills, The Tudors and Stuarts, The English Civil War, Thye Native American Indians, The Industrial Revolution, Jack the Ripper.
Year 9 – Historical Skills, World War One, Slavery, Black People’s of America, World War Two.
GCSE – We follow the AQA Specification B. The exam is spilt up into three sections. Paper 1 looks at:- The lead up to World War One, Trench warfare, The Peace Treaties, The lead up to World War Two and its aftermath. The origins of the Cold War.
Paper 2 is the depth study and focuses on two countries. Germany between the wars, and Russia 1917 – 1941.
The final 25% of the mark is assessed by coursework. One piece no longer than 1,500 words on Evacuation of children in Britain during World War Two, and another of the same length on Civil Rights in the USA during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
