An Evening at the Oscars

Saturday 6 th May 2006 saw Farringdon Community Sports College hosting its ‘1 st Annual Oscars’ at the Quayside Exchange in Sunderland.

The evening was arranged to celebrate the outstanding coursework, produced by BTEC and GCSE Media Students throughout Year 10 and 11, some of which had already been viewed by the Royal Television Society at Teeside University and entered into an MTV Boom Competition earlier in the year.

Winners were presented with a ‘mock’ Oscar and invited on stage to give a speech. The Oscars were presented by Mrs. O’Brien and ‘guest presenters’ these included the schools own Mr. Miller, Miss Ashton, Mrs. Clay and Mrs. Bird; Head of School, Mr. Thornton along with, Andy Williams from St Roberts CLC, who worked closely with us on the ‘Animation’ Category and John Howe, the Education Reporter for the Sunderland Echo, who presented the print based awards.

80 Year 11’s attended the evening and great fun was had by all – a full list of the winners can be found below along with some images of the nights festivities.
