The Provision is located in the D Block in rooms 14 and 15, at Farringdon Community Sports College. It is a specialist base for secondary aged pupils in Sunderland, who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

ASD students

“Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults have difficulty relating to others in a meaningful way. Their ability to develop friendships is generally limited as is their capacity to understand other people’s emotional expression.”

(Taken from NAS leaflet ‘What is Autism?)

The Provision was set up in September 2007, and will develop in its numbers of pupils over the next five years. Pupils are referred from both special and mainstream schools in Sunderland.

The Provision is able to access the school’s resources, specialist subject teachers and resource bases, where appropriate. Pupils that it is appropriate to integrate are also given that opportunity, with support from the specialist Provision staff.

The Provision offers outreach support and advice, as well as training.
